It’s funny how one day you can be idly thinking about something in a “maybe one day” kind of way, and then a couple of days later the planets align and a deal drops into your lap 
I’d been browsing an old copy of Custom Car from the late 70s, devouring the adverts as much as the editorial content if I’m honest, and in amongst the stick-on murals, nudgebars and jack-up kits were the wheels…

Not having a time machine, I’m limited to scouring the classifieds – and a set of five KN Mercurys in 6″x13″ came up locally at a good price 
They were advertised as needing a refurb and priced accordingly, but that’s just cos’ someone’s tried to tidy them up at some point with a pot of black Hammerite and a pan scrubber. Look past that, though, and they’re solid, unkerbed and show no signs of damage or abuse 
Plus they came with a full set of original centres 
They were manufactured by KN Wheels, but were also sold under the Goodyear brand at various outlets, thus the logos.
The plan is now a full strip down, then a fresh coat of black to replace what’s already there, then polish up the spoke faces and the outer rim.
Test fitting on the car has confirmed in my mind that I made a good choice A period wheel that’s different from the norm…
I’ll need to fit longer studs and get some new nuts with a flat base, as opposed to the conical base on the ones for the steels. Chrome will look good methinks.
