Part of the problem (with being isolated in the garage) is that I can’t bring myself to traipse through my nice new house in grubby overalls (to scour the interwebs for help), and even if I could, I’d never be able to bear the sight of oily fingerprints on the keyboard  Logical answer then, I guess, is to rig up a PC in the garage – which would also give me access to all my mp3s  Maybe I’ll get that sorted before the car comes off the road in the winter for all the panelwork

Speaking of which, the list of panels needing repair/replacement is stacking up, and this is only what I’ve found without poking around too much

  • Inner bonnet frame at leading edge
  • Both front wings
  • Scuttle
  • Both outer sills
  • Both lower rear quarters
  • Inner o/s rear quarter
  • Rear valance
  • Boot floor
  • Both front & rear screen surrounds
  • Both door skins

The roof could do with a touch-up too

As I don’t think I’ll be able to get all that done in the next day and a half, I’m concentrating on getting rid of the most obvious cosmetic blemishes, driving it for the summer, then taking it apart in the winter.

This morning I’ve been working my way round the car with the grinder and rust stripper, trying to get down to clean metal so I can at least bodge a few quick tidy-ups. It’ll be a world of filler, primer, smoke and mirrors, but at least I won’t have to throw a blanket over it when I get down to the CF show … more to come later …
